Top 100 Best Songs Of 2013 (Year End Chart 2013)
The Official List of 2013's Most Popular Baby Names Released
In the Social Security's annual pre-Mother's Day celebration, for boys and girls. Here they are, in order of popularity.
Boys:Noah, Liam, Jacob, Mason, William, Ethan, Michael, Alexander, Jayden and Daniel.
Girls:Sophia, Emma, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Emily, Abigail, Madison and Elizabeth.
The girls list contains all the same names it did in 2012, with Sophia again claiming the top spot. The boys list stayed almost identical as well, with a few notable exceptions: Moving up from its 2012 11th-place spot, Daniel pushed Aiden off the 2013 list entirely. The boys list also had a new number one in Noah, which moved from 4th place in 2012 and dethroned Jacob for the first time since 1999.
100,000+ Baby Namesauthor Bruce Lansky says the reason for the change is "parents are choosing softer names because the image of what they want in a son is kinder, gentler, more considerate and more empathetic... Not that Jacob is macho, but Jacob shortens to Jake, which is a macho name."
Jennifer Moss, founder of BabyNames.com, says the choice for biblical boy names stems from the desire to "create the illusion of good values and good character." Moss also says girl names tend to be chosen based on how glamorous and elegant they are.
