Are You Sitting Too Much?
Sitting Down Too Much Ups Your Risk of Cancer
If you are anything like me, your job has you sitting at a desk most of the day. Sure, you know it's not great for you, but you work out to balance the negative effects, so all should be OK, right? Think again.
According to a presentation at an American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) conference, Thursday, long bouts of sitting are linked to as many as 49,000 cases of breast cancer and 43,000 cases of colon cancer a year in the United States, reportsMSNBC.com.
Sitting also increases your risk of lung cancer, prostate cancer, endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer. But the good news is, you can decrease the risks if you get up regularly, even just to walk around the office or get water.
Whether you set an hourly reminder or get up to talk with co-workers more, instead of emailing them, just make sure to fold plenty of standing/walking into your routine.
