Gerry McCann says chances of getting Madeleine back are 'slim', in revealing interview
Gerry McCann has admitted that he blames himself for daughter Madeleine’s disappearance, and that he now believes the chances that he will ever see her again are slim.
In a heartfelt interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Mr McCann spoke of his guilt after Madeleine disappeared in May, commenting ‘I wish I hadn’t gone to the tapas bar….Of course we feel guilty about not having been there and that is just something we have to deal with for the rest of our lives. We live this 24 hours a day.’
Mr McCann spoke to the magazine in October without wife Kate, in exchange for a donation to the Find Madeleine appeal. The McCann’s friends and family are also interviewed for the piece, as is suspect Robert Murat.
Mr McCann reveals for the first time that he thinks it is unlikely that they will ever get Madeline back. He told the magazine, ‘I know now that, probably, the chances of getting Madeleine back are slim.’
He added though that the couple will never give up hope, ‘You might never see her again. But still you have the hope. Still.’
Although the interview is one of the most revealing that the McCann’s have given to date, Mr McCann did add that he is still unable to comment on the investigation due to Portugese secrecy laws. He told the magazine, ‘I can’t talk to you about the details of what happened.
