9 Things a Skin Care Professional Does Every Day
1. Stick to a strict skincare routine, day and night.
"My number one skin rule has got to be cleansing morning and night. Cleanse, tone, put your eye cream on — because you want the ingredients from the eye product to work its magic on the finer skin of the eye areafirst —then serum, moisturizer, SPF and anything else you choose to use."
Top tip:"If you're prone to puffy eyes, just put your eye products on in the morning, not at nighttime."
2. Tackle shadows, puffiness and droopy eyelids with eye cream technique.
"When you apply your eye cream, always work outwards in, and don't forget the crow's feet area.
"To fade under-eye shadows, stimulate lymph drainage around the eyes by tapping in your cream as you apply it in, doing an almost drumming action with your fingertips. It feels like a gimmick, but it does actually work.
"To drain puffiness, rest your fingertips on your under eyes gently, and almost gently pull the skin down. Not so you're not dragging them, but gently pulling on the elasticity of the skin, which in itself helps support lymph drainage.
"To lift the upper eyelids, tap the skin above the brow bone and push upwards, so as you're applying your eye cream you're also opening up the eye area."
3. Exfoliate regularly, in multiple ways.
"Exfoliating regularly can be quite skin changing. If you've got what I call 'relatively normal skin', then exfoliation not only makes the skin look brighter, but because you've got rid of dead skin cells, it then means that your serums and moisturizers can get to work quicker. Exfoliation might be through using a muslin cloth when you cleanse, it might be through using a gritty exfoliant after cleansing, or it might be through using skincare with enzymes. They all actually deal with different things, so I mix up these options."
4. Prioritize serum over moisturizer.
"You've got so many active ingredients in a serum that you can't get in your moisturizers — and some of those are the key skin balancers and anti-agers. So, youcouldhave a routine without a serum, but if you want a big difference in your skin you've got to include a serum."
5. Massage skin daily.
"To me, facial massage is a no-brainer. It can completely change the clarity and tone of your skin and it doesn't cost anything. Don't make it a chore — cleansing in itself is an excuse to massage your face, so do it then and consider it multi-tasking."
6. Plump up your lips — by humming.
"You can stimulate the blood flow in your lips with a little yoga technique. Simply hum (in the privacy of your bathroom!), so you can hear the vibration in your head and feel it in your lips. It's called Humming Bee Breath in yoga [try the video below] and it genuinely stimulates the blood flow to your lips.
